Smoke Free Meeker Coalition

Smoke Free Meeker County Coalition is a grassroots coalition of citizens, medical community, businesses and employees working to demonstrate protect employees and patrons from secondhand smoke in every workplace and public place.

Secondhand Smoke

There is no risk-free level of secondhand smoke exposure.  Even brief exposure can be dangerous.  (US Department of Health and Human Services, The Health Consequences of Involuntary Exposure to Tobacco Smoke:  A Report of the Surgeon General, 2006)

Employees in restaurants and bars deserve the same protections from secondhand smoke as do employees in offices, factories and warehouses.

Employees should not be forced to choose between their jobs and breathing secondhand smoke.

Two separate studies have found a rapid decrease in heart attacks when smoke free laws were enacted. (Sargent, et al, 2004; Colorado Prevention Center, 2005)

The risk of heart disease increases 25-35 percent with exposure to secondhand smoke. (International Agency for Research on Cancer, 2002)
